A former entrance and window front from an early 20th C. shop in Brussels, a typical typology to find throughout the city, is transformed into a living space for a single family house. In order to keep the original structure intact an insulated piece of furniture is built behind the window, functioning as thermal barrier and storage space. Two sash-windows with structured glass are placed inside the new structure, allowing the owners to regulate privacy in a vertical way, avoiding the need for curtains and allowing daylight to flow into the space any time of the day. During restoration a marble frame and base were uncovered underneath thick layers of paint, again showing the prestige these early 20th C. window fronts embody today.
