Rue de Londres
The back house of this typical Brussels’ mansion used to be a manufactory in the 19th century, while the front building served as an office and a house. Over the decades the back house lost its industrial function and became a residential unit. It retained many of its original elements as a reminder of its industrial past. The exterior shell was carefully restored, while the interior spaces were cleared of the clutter accumulated over the decades. In the process, each floor regained the open plan of its manufacturing days, carefully foreseen with modern-day comforts. The front house has been converted into three apartments with a commercial ground floor as a coffee bar. The prime location of the building on the Place de Londres gives the whole entity a vibrant dynamic, while respecting the historic elements still present in both buildings.
